Vacant hotel near JFK Airport to become 300+ permanently affordable apartments

An empty hotel near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens will be converted into a permanently affordable housing development with 300 apartments. Slate Property Group, RiseBoro Community Partnership, and the city's Housing Development Corporation on Monday announced the acquisition of the former JFK Hilton Hotel for $64 million, the first step in converting the vacant hotel into homes for low-income households and formerly homeless New Yorkers. Construction is expected to kick off next month.

A housing lottery opened this week for 50 middle-income luxury apartments at a new residential development under construction in Forest Hills. Located at 73-65 Yellowstone Boulevard, The Yellowstone offers residents spacious units, indoor and outdoor amenities, and easy access to a new Trader Joe's opening on the building's ground floor. New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income, or between $96,000 for a single person and $198,250 for a household of five, can apply for the apartments, priced between $2,750/month for one-bedrooms and $3,599/month for two-bedrooms.

Tremont Residences brings 119 much-need affordable apartments to West Farms in the Bronx

A 100 percent affordable housing building opened this week in the Bronx's West Farms, an area with some of the lowest median household incomes in the country. Dubbed the Tremont Residences, the 11-story tower at 1973 Daly Avenue has 119 units, with about 60 percent of the apartments set aside for formerly homeless New Yorkers. The $50.6 million development includes on-site support for those who need support to live independently, according to officials.

Construction begins on massive $100M affordable complex in Far Rockaway

Construction officially kicked off on a huge housing development that will rise on a former hospital site in Far Rockaway. Edgemere Commons is an 11-building complex with more than 2,000 affordable homes, retail, community space, medical facilities, and outdoor public space planned. The first phase involves the construction of a 17-story building with 194 homes.

Proposed 40-story tower in Downtown Brooklyn gets City Council approval

The New York City Council this week voted to approve a proposed 40-story building in Downtown Brooklyn, adding to the slew of new high-rises coming to the historically low-slung neighborhood. According to the Brooklyn Eagle, the council voted to approve zoning measures that permit Slate Property Group to build at 570 Fulton Street. With council approval, the 200,000-square-foot mixed-use building will move on to Mayor Bill de Blasio's desk next, despite concerns from the local community board.

Not only does the 19-story building offer amenities such as a landscaped roof terrace with BBQs and a gym with a yoga studio, but its location at the intersection of booming Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street means it's just a few blocks from BAM, the Barclay's Center, almost all major subways at Atlantic Terminal, and Fort Green Park. Slate Property Group Seeks to Convert Greenpoint Savings Bank Annex Into Apartments

Slate Property Group is seeking approvals from the Landmark Preservation Commission to convert the rear annex of the landmarked Greenpoint Savings Bank into apartments. Situated within Greenpoint's historic district, at the southeast corner of Calyer and Lorimer Streets, the plan would add an additional two stories to an existing three-story office structure at the corner, ultimately yielding 25 units throughout 40,000 square feet of residential area.

Slate Property Group Files Permits to Demolish Tenement Building in Murray Hill

Slate Property Group filed permits fully demolish a five-story walk-up building at 203 East 33rd Street in Murray Hill. No details of their plans have been made public, but the team has the ability to transfer development rights from the string of adjacent properties they own to construct a mid-size building. Built in the early 1900's, the structure is one of seven adjacent tenement buildings between Second and Third Avenues that the development group purchased in 2013 that are altogether called The Collective. In all, the buildings comprise 146 rental apartments and eight retail spaces. A $10 million renovation and rebranding reconfigured the units into smaller apartments with high-end appliances aimed at young college students and post-graduates. All seven buildings are linked with an underground tunnel, which features a screening room and a game room. Other amenities include a part-time doorman, dishwashers, and a huge shared rooftop terrace with outdoor seating.
