30+ furniture finds for easy holiday hosting

November 10, 2025

Whether you live in a huge loft or a tiny apartment, hosting holiday dinners can be a great way to bring friends and family together–and put your culinary (or food-finding) skills on display. The food is often the main event, but a meal needs a great frame to allow guests to mix and mingle. The key to successful hosting is to survey your space and make it as people-friendly as possible. Below are our picks to get your space ready for dinner party success.

Small space dining

New York City living means living in small spaces. But with a little bit of ingenuity, you can create spaces for celebration–even for a crowd.

Built-in banquettes are an elegant space-saver, but if construction is out of the question, a corner sofa can be paired with a kitchen table that fits.

Use a movable island for a movable feast. Even better: find one with wheels.

Don’t have a dedicated dining space? Pair your existing seating with side tables and tray tables, and let guests find a spot.

The whole big crowd

If you have the space and it’s your turn to host the whole crew, start with a massive dining table, add folding tables, and put that dining island to work. Tip: Place a big dining table in a dramatic spot, like in front of a glass wall with a view, or on a high mezzanine.

An intimate affair

A small gathering is sometimes the best kind. Round tables can encourage conversation, and cozy seating helps guests want to linger at the table.
