Amy Schumer drops $12.1M on glassy Riverside Drive penthouse

October 31, 2016

Earlier this month, 6sqft shared reports that Amy Schumer toured a $15 million, historic Beaux Arts mansion at 352 Riverside Drive. But just two weeks later, the comedian closed on a more contemporary penthouse farther south along the river. Sources told the Post that she dropped $12.1 million on a 4,500-square-foot duplex at 91st Street, and after some sleuthing, 6sqft has uncovered that it’s the top-floor spread at 190 Riverside Drive. The five-bedroom Upper West Side home is described as “a Malibu beach house, with the sophistication of Manhattan architecture,” which is fitting considering the wrap-around terrace surrounded by glass walls and the recent renovation by Spivak Architects.

A key-locked elevator opens directly into the apartment, where you can immediately see how the entire space is wrapped in enormous, continuous bi-fold glass doors. Additionally, the coffered, 11-foot ceilings are partially glass, and a central staircase leads to a glass bulkhead that opens to yet another private terrace, this one with an outdoor kitchen and even more entertaining space.

Other features include a custom stone and glass fireplace in the living room, a six-burner stove, double ovens, and wine fridge in the kitchen, and a master bath with marble walls and floors, a six-foot soaking tub, and radiant heat flooring. The bedrooms, three out of five of which have access to the terrace, are located in their own wing, separated from the main living space by a media room and laundry room.

190 Riverside Drive is a pre-war apartment building built in 1908 to the Neo-Renaissance-style designs of Ralph S. Townsend of Townsend, Steinle & Haskell, who built several other handsome buildings around the city. It was converted to condos in 1990, and today offers a full-time doorman, bike room, and parking garage, to which Schumer’s unit has a private, deeded spot. This is certainly a step up for her, as she listed a much more modest one-bedroom co-op on West 80th Street for $2 million last year.
