A housing lottery opened this week for 129 affordable apartments at a new energy-efficient residential development in East New York. Located at 573 Emerald Street, the development is the second phase of the affordable and supportive multi-building housing project Linden Terrace. New Yorkers earning 30, 50, 60, and 70 percent of the area median income, or between $16,183 for a single person and $115,850 for a household of seven, can apply for the apartments, which range from $397/month for studios to $1,865/month three bedrooms.

Developed by Radson Development and designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning (MAP), the Linden Terrace project is a three-building mixed-use complex that will bring more than 500 affordable apartments to the Brooklyn neighborhood.

Linden Terrace II was given the NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Award during the program’s first round due to its state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly construction. The building is fully electric and utilizes “solar thermal, hot water heat pumps, ground source pumps, and heat recovery” technologies, according to the project page.

The first building contains multi-family residential and retail programs, while buildings two and three contain affordable multi-family units, supportive housing, and on-site social services.

Amenities include an outdoor landscaped terrace, community lounge, bicycle storage, parking, children’s playroom, and on-site laundry.

Nearby transportation options include the L subway line and the B15 bus.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until November 14, 2022. Complete details on how to apply are available here. Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Community Board 5. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
