One of the best days of the year in NYC is around the corner, and a select group of New Yorkers will get a front-row seat to the action. Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Thursday announced the city will give out 350 free tickets to the TCS New York City Marathon Grandstand, located at the finish line in Central Park. The November 1 event will bring together 60,000 runners from around the world in a 26.2-mile race across the five boroughs.

In partnership with New York Road Runners (NYRR), the non-profit that runs the marathon and dozens of other races, the city launched an online drawing for the free grandstand tickets. The drawing will be open until October 26 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will receive up to two tickets each.

New Yorkers must be 18 or older to enter the drawing, but if selected, a second ticket can be used by New Yorkers of any age.

While there are plenty of free public viewing spots to watch the race as runners make their way from Staten Island, through Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan, the grandstand seating is located along the final 200 meters of the course, providing an inspiring and emotional view of the athletes as they celebrate their amazing accomplishment.

Tickets to the finish line seating normally start at $55.

“On November 1, tens of thousands of runners will wake up before the sun and travel to Staten Island to start the New York City Marathon. Years of training and practice will pay off as runners cut across all five boroughs, crank up their music and cross the finish line in Central Park,” Mamdani said.

“Every one of them deserves a crowd ready to cheer them home. That’s why we’re giving away 350 free tickets to the grandstands at the end of the race. Sports belong to the people, and we’re making sure New Yorkers can experience the special joy of the New York City Marathon.”

This year’s marathon will have a new course for the first time in 15 years, as 6sqft previously reported, with fewer turns by runners in Mott Haven to reduce impact to residents and businesses.
