June 11, 2015

Are you ready for a relaxing summer? We’ve found a great piece of furniture floating around the Internet that we wouldn’t mind having in our home. Meet the new Kodama Zomes, a unique hanging lounger shaped like a geodesic dome that offers the perfect space for relaxation, reading, meditating, or just snoozing your afternoons away. Designed by structural engineer Richie Duncan, the sturdy cocoon will help you unplug as it softly sways you with the summer breeze.

The Kodama Zomes are suspended above the ground and are meant to softly swing in a multi-directional pendulum motion. The movement is said to not only help reduce tension and stress, but also improve overall body health as your blood and lymphatic fluids become centered and find equilibrium.

Their unique geodesic shape takes inspiration from the architect Buckminster Fuller‘s revolutionary domes, which also inspired its name. The word ‘Zomes’ blends ‘Zonohedra’ and ‘Domes’, the first one being a sacred geometric shape found in nature (zonodehral polygons).

Each Zome is hand-built by craftspeople in Oregon and uses the latest 3D engineering software. Sturdy and ultra-resistant, each use powder-coated steel, outdoor-grade polyester webbing and marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware. Its fully customizable design also allows customers to choose exactly the mattress and cushions they want and in what material, and there is a wide-range spectrum of colors to choose from.

A combination of architecture and engineering, of sacred geometry and human proportion, these Zomes provide a cozy solo escape, or one to be shared with a loved one.
