Washington Heights’ First Two Hotels Set to Open This Summer

August 15, 2015

Overnight visitors to Washington Heights–you know, that hotel-free neighborhood “upstate somewhere”—will soon have two brand new lodging options. Both hotels feature geographic monikers, will yield more than 100 rooms combined, and will reportedly open this summer.

So, is Washington Heights trying to lure tourists to the under-explored neighborhood? Unlikely. With numerous medical facilities in the area (New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center), colleges and universities (Yeshiva University, City College), and places like the New Balance Track and Field Center–one of the most well-regarded indoor facilities in the country– the new hotels will likely cater to visiting professionals and families of nearby residents. The options as follows:

Washington Heights, Cliff Hotel, Uptown Manhattan, New York City Hotels 2

Hotel Cliff, near the northeast corner of 181st Street and Amsterdam Avenue is set to open this month. The new eight-floor building designed by Karastathis Architect will have 52 rooms, with the lower floors and basement serving as office space.

Hotel Edge surely won’t win any design awards but it is conveniently located near the 1,A and C 168th Street subway line.

The Edge, a  new 11-story building on West 168th Street, will be the second to open. Located less than 15 blocks south of Hotel Cliff, The Edge will have 54 rooms along with 15,000 square feet of office space.
