A new construction carriage house in Red Hook boasts plentiful indoor and outdoor space

February 5, 2017

A unique property in a unique neighborhood has hit the market for a cool $1.9 million. 97 King Street, in the waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook, is a newer construction building inspired by the carriage house design. The three-story property holds a 270-square-foot garage on the ground floor–currently home to the textile company Artemisia–and living space above. It’s topped with an impressive roof deck that looks over Lower Manhattan and the surrounding waterfront.

Starting on the ground floor, behind large glass and steel doors, is this expansive garage currently being used to run a textile business. It was designed as a climate-controlled artist’s workspace that could be used as a studio, a place to park your car, or extra storage space.

A gallery-style entrance leads to the living room, also located on the ground floor. The artsy space boasts 14-foot ceilings and polished cement floors. It’s located adjacent to the open kitchen, which has carrara marble countertops and lots of cabinetry.

The custom oak and steel staircase leads to the second floor, which has been converted into a library/guest room with a full bathroom. (The listing suggests a wall could be put up on this floor to create two bedrooms.) It’s also flanked by a large private terrace on either end, meaning the floor is awash in light most of the day.

The entire third floor is dedicated to the master suite, with a marble tiled bathroom and jacuzzi tub, walk-in closet and an additional private terrace. And there’s even more outdoor space on top of that!

The top floor was decked out as a large roof deck with grilling area, dining and lounging areas. From here there are excellent views of Lower Manhattan and South Brooklyn.

Red Hook is famous for its cut-off, difficult-to-access location. Although this building is located a far distance from any subway, it comes with the charm of seaside town that’s still got great views of Manhattan.
