Designing This Shingle-Style Home in East Hampton Was a Family Affair for a Young Architect

The East Hampton Northwest Woods home is unlike most other projects by CWB Architects. Founding principal Brendan Coburn designed it as the firm was in its infancy, working in collaboration with his father, who was also an architect, and his mother, an interior designer. Its 2,200 square feet are complete with enough space for residents and occasional guests, each bedroom has its own bathroom, and the cupola allows for cross ventilation.

CWB Architects Build a Modern Asian-Inspired Beach House in Southampton

Back in 2004, a client with a taste for traveling approached CWB Architects to design a beach house with a distinctly Asian flavor, styled after houses he’d seen in Thailand and Japan. The result is this stunning, appropriately-dubbed 'Thai Style Southampton' home, which stands on stilts above a wetland. In addition to verandas, pointed gable roofs and Mahogany interiors, the charming home features a splendid view out to the Atlantic Ocean.

CWB Architects Build a Musically Inspired Pavilion in the Hamptons for a Pianist Client

A former musical director/pianist from Brooklyn Heights and her historian husband contacted Dumbo-based CWB Architects to build an adjacent pavilion at their home in Quogue on Southampton. The result is the wood-clad Piano Pavilion, which echoes the owners' love for organic architecture, but makes a deliberate nod to its namesake instrument with the contour of its roof. The pavilion was made to function as a piano room and small office, but it also works as a guest room, which is important as the couple's children and six granddaughters visit almost every weekend.

Beautiful Boerum Hill Townhouse Has a Whimsical Kids’ Playroom and an Impeccable Garden

When it comes to Brooklyn townhouses, we often find ourselves ogling their immaculate renovations; incredible undertakings that always somehow manage to perfectly balance the beautiful and historic roots of a construction with the whimsical and wonderful details of modern homes. This gorgeous four-story row house in Boerum Hill is no exception. Renovated by CWB Architects back in 2010, the project included a gut renovation of the two lower floors, and the family room, guest room, playroom, bar and mechanical space were all redesigned. A large opening was also inserted into the southern facade facing the garden, and a sunscreen was integrated into the structure to shield the interior spaces. What came to be was a home that's both cohesive and inviting.

Following a Two-Year Renovation, Park Slope’s ‘Lighthouse’ Asks $7.5M

A gut-renovated four-story townhouse on Garfield Place has just hit the market, asking $7.5 million. The owners of the “Lighthouse,” as it’s been christened, paid $2.6 million for it back in 2012. Then they hauled in the big guns—CWB Architects, Tamara Eaton Design, and Pilaster Contracting—to give it an intense two-year makeover. The result is a gorgeous five-bedroom home with Dinesen Douglas fir floors, a solarium, 880 square feet of exterior space, and a new two-story glass extension and rear wall.

CWB Architects’ Bug Acres Uses a Screened Porch to Bring the Outdoors In

Standing among an idyllic garden with centenarian trees, a stream and granite rocks, this beautiful Woodstock retreat is perfect for a relaxing weekend away. Dubbed "Bug Acres," it was built to replace an old property that used to stand on the same site, and it was exclusively designed for "amplifying the owner’s visual and auditory experience of the landscape from the interior spaces," according to CWB Architects. Our favorite part of the house is the screened cedar porch, which comes complete with minimal decoration and a sweet wood-burning stove, letting you be one with nature from the comfort of a warm home.
