A palatial penthouse at record-setting condo building Quay Tower in Brooklyn Heights has just hit the market for $10,000,000. Located at 50 Bridge Park Drive at the south end of Brooklyn Bridge Park, the waterfront development has made headlines for several title-grabbing sales, including a $20.3 million penthouse (the borough’s second most expensive residential sale ever) and a $10.65 million home that went into contract last fall, a condo record last year. 6sqft got a first look at photos of this just-listed penthouse, which measures a stunning 3,553 square feet and includes four bedrooms, three and a half baths, and unmatched views of Manhattan.

Vote for 6sqft’s 2021 Building of the Year!

By Devin Gannon, Wed, December 15, 2021

After New York City’s construction and real estate industries ground to a halt last year because of the pandemic, 2021 saw a flurry of activity, thanks to the arrival of the coronavirus vaccine and federal funding for states and cities. This year, we saw positive signs that the road to recovery for New York real estate has started. More apartments sold in Manhattan in the third quarter of 2021 than at any point during the last 30 years. Brooklyn gained its first supertall. The priciest private development ever built in the Bronx opened. Records were broken, set, and broken again.

As the city adapts to a new normal, so do residential projects. Amenities now focus on health and wellness, like stunning sky-high pools, curated fitness centers, and landscaped outdoor space. With work-from-home culture likely not going anywhere, developers offer designer-crafted co-working spaces, libraries, and lounges.

Our picks are down to 16 of the most notable residential projects this year. Which do you think deserves 6sqft’s title of 2021 Building of the Year? Polls for our seventh annual competition will remain open through midnight on Sunday, December 26. A winner will be announced on Monday, December 27. Happy voting!

Assuming the condo at Brooklyn Heights’ Quay Tower closes for its $10,650,000 asking price, it’ll become Brooklyn’s priciest condo sale of the year. This is not the first record-setter for the luxury waterfront tower. In April 2020, a penthouse closed for $20,301,000, making it the borough’s most expensive residential sale ever at the time. (It was outdone by a $25.5 million Brooklyn Heights townhouse sale in January of this year, but it’s still the borough’s biggest condo sale.) The latest sale is for a 4,544-square-foot, four-bedroom unit with amazing skyline and harbor views.

Back in October of 2018, a $20 million penthouse in Brooklyn Heights’ Quay Tower went into contract. It’s now closed (virtually!) for $20,301,000, making it the borough’s most expensive residential sale ever. It takes the crown from the $16.7 million penthouse Matt Damon bought in late 2018 at The Standish, also in Brooklyn Heights. Andrew Anderson of Douglas Elliman, who facilitated the sale, said: “Closing on the most expensive residential sale in Brooklyn history at this period in time is a testament to the beautiful, serene homes created at Quay Tower and the desirability of waterfront living in Brooklyn Heights.”

13 Brooklyn condos with the best waterfront views

By Michelle Sinclair Colman, Wed, November 20, 2019

Way back in 1992 when David Dinkins was mayor, a Department of City Planning report began, “New York City’s waterfront is a valuable but still untapped resource. Decades of declining maritime activity have left much of the city’s waterfront dormant. Today, after years of neglect and revitalization attempts stalled by the clash of competing interests, New Yorkers are coming together to fulfill the public’s claim to productive use and increased enjoyment of this resource.” Today, this transformation is perhaps the most evident along the Brooklyn waterfront, where views of Manhattan and beyond are enjoyed from contemporary towers, restored industrial buildings, and cool, open lofts. Ahead, we round up 13 condominiums with the best views on the waterfront in Brooklyn.

A combination penthouse at Quay Tower, a brand new luxury condo building on the Brooklyn Heights waterfront, went into contract this week for over $20 million. If closed, the deal would become the most expensive residential sale in Brooklyn history, breaking the previous record of $16.645 million for a penthouse picked up by actor Matt Damon last year. And before that, a $15.5 million brick carriage house in Cobble Hill held the record for most expensive single residence sale in Brooklyn, which was purchased by photographer Jay Maisel in 2015.
