Who doesn’t love a classic six Manhattan apartment, especially with views of the park? This may not be Central Park, and this may not be a storied Upper East Side co-op building, but we’re still loving this apartment up for sale at La Touraine, a 24-unit prewar co-op at 50 Morningside Drive in Morningside Heights. It’s got stunning views of Morningside Park, not to mention a beautiful interior. The price isn’t cheap, but it’s certainly less than a classic six on the market with views of Central Park. The ask comes in at $1.05 million.
In case you need reminding, the “classic six” is a six-room apartment floor plan with a formal dining room, a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, a smaller bedroom (sometimes known as the maid’s room), and one or two bathrooms. This particular unit has two bedrooms, an office space, and one-and-a-half bathrooms. The floor plan typically exists in prewar buildings–La Touraine was built in 1921, designed by the architecture firm Schwartz and Gross.
Though the kitchen isn’t huge or modernized, it’s definitely quirky. We love that farmhouse sink and the vintage-looking filing cabinet.
Only one of the bedrooms is pictured in the listing; it has lots of closet space and some wonderful stained glass detailing.
And of course, we have to talk about those park views. (Who needs Central Park, anyway?) You’ll be able to gaze out onto Morningside Park from the living room, dining room and one of the bedrooms. You’re also within walking distance of the green campus of Columbia University as well as the waterfront Riverside Park. A beautiful apartment inside and tons of greenery outside? Sounds like a good deal to us.
