In New Windsor, a 19th-century stone castle is on the market for $1.225 million. Located on two acres of land overlooking the Hudson River, the Roe Brewster Castle at 11 Oak Ridge Drive was constructed in 1870 and features fixtures designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The 8,400-square-foot estate has six bedrooms and seven baths but has operated as a multi-family rental property.

The well-preserved mansion was commissioned by William Roe III and decorated by Louis Comfort Tiffany, best known for his stained glass designs and his family’s company, Tiffany & Co. According to the listing, the former single-family home was converted into a seven-unit building for returning Air National guardsman following World War II. In total, there are over 20 rooms at the property.

Upon stepping foot on the front porch, the 150-year-old building impresses with its Samuel Yellin-designed front entrance awning and stone archways. Inside, the common area boasts a chestnut staircase that leads to the apartments.

Elegant design elements are found throughout the home, including 12-foot ceilings, parquet floors, detailed moldings, stained-glass windows, and a beautiful hand-carved fireplace.

A central stained-glass skylight designed by Tiffany is one of the architectural highlights of the home. Plus, nearly all of the original windows were recently restored.

While the individual units could use some updating, the castle could become an “investment, niche Airbnb business, and/or event space!” as the listing describes. The Hudson River-facing property sits within Orange County and just south of Newburgh. And it’s just a 90-minute drive to Midtown, making the Roe Brewster Castle within commuting distance to New York City.
