Sustainable rental in Greenpoint opens lottery for 251 apartments, from $1,537/month

Here's a chance to live on the Greenpoint waterfront at the largest geothermal residential project in New York. A lottery opened this week for 251 mixed-income apartments at the Riverie, a five-building development at 18 India Street with over 800 apartments, wellness-focused amenities, and a sustainable design. Also known as 1 Java Street, the development is fully electric and has a geothermal system that reduces carbon emissions by over 50 percent compared to traditional systems. New Yorkers earning 70, 125, and 130 percent of the area median income can apply for the units, priced from $1,537/month for studios to $4,395/month for two bedrooms.

Greenpoint rental that is New York’s largest geothermal residential building gets new name, renderings

The largest geothermal residential project in New York has received a fresh rebranding ahead of leasing next year. Lendlease unveiled new branding and renderings for The Riverie, an 834-unit multi-family development at 1 Java Street along the Greenpoint waterfront. The project comprises five interconnected buildings, including a 37-story and a 20-story tower. The development features an all-electric design and a geothermal system that reduces annual carbon emissions from heating and cooling by 53 percent compared to traditional residential systems.

Lendlease-Turner selected as design-build team for $1.5B Javits Center expansion

A Lendlease-Turner Construction partnership has been chosen to coordinate and build the planned 1.2 million-square-foot expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Manhattan's far west side. Commercial Observer reports that the New York Convention Center Development Corporation, the entity that controls the state-owned venue, announced Tuesday that they had approved the team for the project, which is expected to cost $1.55 billion. Atlanta-based architecture firm tvsdesign is also part of the Lendlease-Turner consortium. According to the announcement, the winning proposal offered, "significant design, logistical and operational benefits, including increased atrium space, integrated public and support spaces and a commitment to maintaining current operations during all phases of construction."

Rafael Viñoly’s 432 Park Reportedly Showing Cracks in Its 1,400-Foot Facade

Is the Western Hemisphere's tallest residential tower already experiencing some construction defects? According to a recent blog post by real estate author Michael Gross (h/t Curbed), 432 Park Avenue is showing signs of wear. Gross writes that "Two unconnected sources confirm that the architectural concrete that covers the poured concrete tower has already developed cracks, and that scaffolds hanging from the pillar in recent weeks were there because Nicholson Galloway, a top masonry restoration company, was hired to coat the structure with some 'nasty stuff,' as one of those sources puts it, called Silane that will seal those fissures."
