The Columbia Street Waterfront is a quiet and historic waterfront enclave, just west of Cobble Hill, that’s filled with small businesses and lined with cobblestone streets. Despite it’s old-time Brooklyn vibe, it’s home to at least one very contemporary townhouse at 48 Tiffany Place. The single-family, three-story home underwent a reno in 2013 and recently won the Remodelista Considered Design Award for its unique and dramatic interior.
An older property on this site was replaced by a new home in 2008. Then in 2013, the current owners took on architect Massim Studio to upgrade the space and bring in more light and air. The living room is one the most dramatic rooms of all, framed by architectural steel beams under double height ceilings, with light streaming in from the south and west.
The dining room is right off the living room on the first floor. It was redesigned with storage in mind — a built in liquor cabinet holds nearly 50 wine bottles.
The kitchen is at the rear of the first floor, looking over a private outdoor space. It’s got all the fancy appliances and new black granite countertops. Right off the kitchen is a large laundry and utility room.
Sliding doors from the dining room lead you to the ground-floor outdoor space. It’s not green but it’s a good enough spot for a barbecue!
The second floor is home to two bedrooms, as well as an office mezzanine that looks out onto the living room below.
Finally, the top floor is home to the master bedroom suite with big closets and its own bathroom.
From the master bedroom you can step out onto the lush roof deck — the listing calls it “a true urban oasis.” It’s been designed with an ipe pergola, cedar planters and its own irrigation system. It’s also wired for sound, making this the perfect place for an outdoor party. From up here, you’ll have views of the cobblestone streets below offering a touch of history to your modern home.
