Architect Frederick Stelle began his career 40 years ago renovating the Yale University Old Campus dormitories. He then went on to co-found his own firm in Manhattan, and in 1985 opened Stelle Architects on the East End of Long Island. Stelle is passionate about the Hamptons community where he lives and is also a conservationist, according to his firm bio, interests that clearly exhibit themselves at this modern Water Mill house he designed. Currently on the market for $19.5 million, the four-bedroom house is located on Mecox Bay and offers waterfront views from nearly every room, as well as an incredible gunite pool and private dock.

As mentioned, the home faces Mecox Bay, to which it has a private dock. But just on the other side of the street is the beach and ocean, as well as the Water Mill Beach Club.

Fred Stelle is known for his modern takes on beachfront properties and for designing homes for celebrities including Calvin Klein. According to the project page, for this property, built in 2013, he chose low-maintenance materials like cement-panel rain screen siding and vertical grain cedar that can tolerate “the harsh exposure.” The compact layout and size of the house were designed in response to “significant building restrictions” on the site.

The ground-floor entrance opens to a staircase straight ahead that leads to the main floor, where the great room is lined with a wall of glass and sun deck overlooking the Bay.

Off the great room is a den/media room with a screened-in porch. This level also includes a powder room and laundry room. Though not pictured, the lower level holds the garage, a gym, storage, and a half-bath.

Upstairs are the bedrooms. There are two guest bedrooms that share a bathroom, one of which has its own bay-facing balcony. The other guest bedroom has two large closets and its own en-suite bathroom.

The primary bedroom suite has a built-in office area behind a knee wall and gorgeous views of the water.

Outside there is an outdoor shower and covered outdoor seating.

The heated gunite pool is 512 square feet and feels like it’s almost floating above the bay.
