An architecture critic is selling his apartment in one of New York City’s most beloved buildings. Paul Goldberger, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his architecture criticism in the New York Times and has authored several books, has put his nine-room co-op at 211 Central Park West on the market for $8,950,000. The spacious apartment at The Beresford benefits from pre-war proportions and character, a recently renovated chef’s kitchen, Central Park views, and an iconic address.

A semi-private landing leads to an expansive gallery, fit for any collector to show off their favorite pieces. Preserved design features like herringbone floors and custom millwork can be found throughout the home.

Through the gallery is the living room, which faces the treetops of Central Park across the street and is drenched in natural light. The spacious room can fit a variety of configurations, centered by a wood-burning fireplace. Next door is a library with built-in bookshelves and more park views.

A dining room with an additional seating area leads to the chef’s kitchen, which has been recently renovated and boasts all top-of-the-line appliances. Off this room is a staff room with a powder room and a laundry room.

On the other end of the apartment are the bedrooms, including the corner primary suite overlooking the park. The main bedroom boasts two en-suite baths and multiple closets. The two additional bedrooms face 82nd Street and share a full bath.

Located at the corner of Central Park West and 81st Street, the Beresford was designed by noted NYC architect Emery Roth in 1929. Roth was the mastermind behind many classic NYC buildings, and along the west side of Central Park, including The El Dorado and The San Remo.

The 22-story Beresford is comprised of three buildings, distinguished by three towers. The building’s apartments are known to be large with high ceiling heights and fireplaces. The building is among New York City’s most recognizable, a definite distinctive part of the Central Park West skyline.
