In Jamaica, Queens, 166 affordable apartments are now up for grabs at Tree of Life, a new mixed-use Passive House project at 89-46 164th Street. In addition to its residential component, the building offers community facility and social service spaces, a health center, and it is adjacent to the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica (the oldest continuously serving Presbyterian church in the United States). The available units range from $667/month studios to $2,264/month three-bedrooms and are available to those earning 50, 60, 90, and 120 percent of the area median income.

Tree of Life was developed by The Bluestone Organization and The First Presbyterian Church of Jamaica. The new building is connected to the church’s Magill Hall, where the church will operate its food pantry, weekly community dinner, and expanded social services including tutoring, educational classes, health screenings, economic support, and more.

Amenities include a fitness room, multipurpose room, outdoor green space for recreational use, bike storage, laundry facilities on every floor, and on-site covered parking. As for the Passive House elements, Tree of Life has a photovoltaic array system on the roof, a cogeneration system, energy-efficient appliances, high-performance windows, energy recovery ventilators for improved fresh air ventilation, and electric car charging stations. The building is located in Downtown Jamaica and is close to several subway stations.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until April 26, 2021. Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Queens Community Board 12. Complete details on how to apply are available here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
