This is only one of a few estates still standing in the historic district of the upstate New York town of Tappan, and it’s on the market for $895,000 (h/t CIRCA). Built in 1835, the Victorian home boasts everything from 10-foot ceilings, five fireplaces, wood floors, stained glass made at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and a grand archway in the dining room from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ estate. It’s currently configured as a two-family home, but some TLC and elbow grease could turn this back into an impressive and stately single-family showpiece.

The home, off a country road, is located between pillars and boasts a wrap-around porch. The French Second Empire Mansion was originally known as the Brown-Eells house and designed as a single-family residence. But throughout the years, it’s been used as a hospital, doctor’s office, and nursery school.

The current owner, who has been there since 1982, says the carved archway in the dining room came from an estate of Jackie O’s. Regardless of where it came from, it’s the centerpiece of the home’s parlor floor.

Fireplaces and wood floors decorate the formal living areas of the 5,667-square-foot home.

The house has gone through a number of renovations, improvements, and additions, with a project way back in 1872 and another in more recent years. (In 2014, the current owner received the Tappantown Historic Society’s Fellowship Award for their renovation and restoration.) As a result, spaces like the kitchen are a mix of styles–and boast unique details like those red tile floors.

Many of the home’s stained glass windows, as well as a door, originated in Kings County, built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The home’s second apartment doesn’t have the incredible interior details of the main residence.

The owner has also been recognized for their extensive landscaping work on the 30,000-square-foot property. Pathways lead from the patio to open green space. It’s the perfect setting for such a showpiece of a home. Just be sure to check out more images in the gallery below.
