A housing lottery opened this week for 108 apartments at a new senior housing development in Brooklyn. Located at 381-401 Chester Street in Brownsville, Simba Simbi Seniors is an eight-story apartment building offering senior residents comfortable homes and a wide variety of amenities. Applicants must have at least one household member who is 62 years of age or older, qualifies for Section 8 benefits, and earns no more than $60,050 annually. Eligible New Yorkers will pay 30 percent of their income for the available studio and one-bedroom apartments.

Developed by Dunn Development Corp. and designed by Curtis + Ginsberg Architects, the property’s amenities include free internet and WiFi, a 24-hour attended front desk, a library and computer room, an exercise room, a community room, a hobby room, a shared laundry room, bike storage lockers, and a landscaped courtyard garden.

Residents will have access to case management and supportive services provided by CAMBA, a non-profit agency dedicated to connecting struggling New Yorkers with critical resources.

In December 2021, the property’s original developer L+M Development Partners transferred the site to Dunn Development Corp., another affordable housing developer, according to The Real Deal. According to plans filed in 2021, the building contains a total of 157 units and 5,400 square feet of community facility space.

Nearby public transit options include the L, A, C, J, Z, and 3 subway lines, as well as the B60 bus.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until May 26, 2023. Complete details on how to apply are available here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
