April 19, 2015

It’s a dilemma that almost everyone has faced — where do we find a media console that’s storage-friendly, but isn’t a complete eyesore? Enter Brooklyn-based designer Katy Skelton, whose Desi cabinet brings us the best of both worlds.

Made from solid walnut, the beautiful console features two drawers and two cabinets, each with removable shelves that owners can move and adjust according to their needs. Doors are equipped with soft-close hardware and cabinets boasts cord management cutouts to help organize all the different video and stereo systems.

Each piece is crafted in Pennsylvania in keeping with Skelton’s company mission — to partner with responsible, high-quality manufacturers based in the United States. It’s a goal that the former Texan set while working on her thesis — she developed a wooden furnishings line with fair trade factories in India — at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

In addition to her strict social responsibility standards, Skelton’s pieces stand out because of their timeless, space-saving design. Items like the One Drink Table, with its seven-inch maple wood top, are made for city dwellers and their tiny, cramped apartments.
