$108M restoration of Dumbo’s historic cobblestone streets is complete

This week, the final brick was laid in the multi-year, $108 million restoration of Dumbo’s iconic cobblestone streets. The city’s Department of Design and Construction and the Dumbo Business Improvement District on Wednesday celebrated the placement of the last Belgian block at Anchorage Plaza, completing a six-year effort that restored 800,000 historic bricks across 26 blocks. The landmark project in one of Brooklyn's oldest neighborhoods also upgraded stormwater drainage, reduced combined sewer runoff into the harbor, added new bike lanes, and introduced the Pearl Street Plaza.

Fishs Eddy to open first Brooklyn outpost in Dumbo this fall

Fishs Eddy, the cult-favorite Union Square home goods and dinnerware store known for its quirky products, will open its first Brooklyn location this fall in Dumbo. Developer Two Trees Management announced Thursday that the retailer signed a 10-year lease for a 3,800-square-foot outpost at 81 Front Street, about the same size as its flagship at 889 Broadway. The new store will feature vintage finds, one-of-a-kind pieces, and signature Fishs Eddy items.

Admission is free via an online ballot, which is open through July 1.

CityPickle unveils plan for huge pickleball hub under the Brooklyn Bridge

CityPickle on Friday released its plan to transform two parking lots beneath the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo into a pickleball hub. The project, slated for Anchorage Plaza—an area under the bridge between Old Fulton and Washington Streets—takes up 60,000 square feet and features 11 pickleball courts, food trucks, green space with planters, games, seating, shaded areas, bike racks, and space for community programming. CityPickle was selected by the city’s Parks Department last June to revitalize the underused space, which will operate from March through November.

Brooklyn Bridge Park opens new Pier 1 pavilion and plaza

Marking its 15th anniversary, Brooklyn Bridge Park debuted a scenic and accessible new gateway into the beloved waterfront park this week. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA) and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, the new pavilion acts as a front porch to the rest of the 85-acre park, featuring lush landscaping and an elevated view of the East River and Manhattan. Moving on from the Nets, Ben Simmons lists Dumbo condo for $17M

About a month after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets, NBA point guard Ben Simmons is waving goodbye to his Dumbo condo. As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, the Australian-born basketball player put his combined apartment on the 21st-floor of new development Olympia Dumbo on the market for $16,995,000. Simmons, who recently moved across the country to join the LA Clippers, bought the apartment for about $14 million in 2023.

A bigger and better Pearl Street Triangle plaza opens in Dumbo

A plaza near the Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo has received a pedestrian-friendly makeover. The Dumbo Improvement District on Friday unveiled the newly designed Dumbo Archway Plaza, which enlarges the Pearl Street Triangle to create more permanent space for the public and less space for vehicles. New sculptural seating, custom umbrellas, and artwork have transformed the underutilized street and parking spot into a large plaza that seamlessly connects to the neighborhood's unofficial town square, the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge.

Pickleball is coming next to the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo

Closed to the public for 15 years, two parking lots underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo will transform into a pickleball hub. NYC Parks on Wednesday selected CityPickle to revitalize Anchorage Plaza, a space located on Old Fulton and Washington Streets and connected by a ramp known as "Ash Alley." CityPickle, which currently has courts in Central Park, Long Island City, and Industry City, is expected to operate at the plaza seasonally from March through November next year. Amenities like a dog run, food trucks, public art, and seating would be available year-round, under the proposal.

Visit the studios of 150+ artists in Dumbo this weekend

This weekend, over 150 artists will open their Brooklyn studios to the public. New York icon Pastrami Queen opening in Brooklyn

A classic New York delicatessen is moving to Brooklyn. Pastrami Queen, which has served pastrami sandwiches and other Jewish staples for nearly 70 years, will open in Dumbo’s Time Out Market, a waterfront food hall with an impressive number of highly-rated local restaurants. Pastrami Queen will open at 55 Water Street on Thursday, February 1, according to Time Out New York.

Stunning video art projected onto the Manhattan Bridge, BQE in Dumbo

Immersive video art can now be seen gracing Dumbo's famous infrastructure as part of Brooklyn's largest projection project ever. Presented by the Dumbo Improvement District, the Dumbo Projection Project casts world-class video art on both the Pearl and Adams Streets sides of the Manhattan Bridge and along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Susan Smith McKinney Steward Park. The projections will run through April 20 and be on view Thursdays through Saturdays from dusk to 10 p.m.

City seeks proposals for sports center at Brooklyn Bridge plaza in Dumbo

New York City is looking to reopen nearly 100,000 square feet of open space at the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time in 15 years. As first reported by Streetsblog, NYC Parks this week released a request for proposals (RFP) seeking contractors to operate a seasonal outdoor activity center for up to six years at the two-lot Anchorage Plaza, located on Old Fulton Street and Washington Street and connected by a ramp known as "Ash Alley" underneath the bridge. According to the RFP, the Parks Department seeks proposals for "parks appropriate" activities, including paddle ball, public art or performances, a dog run, and food and drink vendors.

Located under the Brooklyn Bridge at Emily Warren Roebling Plaza, the rink, called Glide at Brooklyn Bridge Park, offers skating for guests of all ages, rinkside food and beverages from the nearby Time Out Market, and spectacular Manhattan skyline views. New sculpture of Biggie Smalls unveiled at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo

A new sculpture of the "King of New York" now greets visitors entering Brooklyn. The Dumbo Improvement District and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership on Tuesday unveiled a 9-foot-tall bronze structure depicting hip-hop legend Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo. Created by artist Sherwin Banfield, the structure, titled "Sky's the Limit in the County of Kings," is dedicated to the "art, life, and legacy" of Wallace, who died 25 years ago.
