A wellness-focused housing development is coming to Bed-Stuy. The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development last week selected the “The Steps at Saratoga” proposal from RiseBoro, IMPACCT Brooklyn, and Urbane Development. Planned for the corner of Fulton Street and Saratoga Avenue, the project consists of two new buildings with 238 affordable apartments, including 158 units for low-income families and 80 for seniors. The development will offer residents several wellness and food justice programs, including access to a food co-op, a demonstration kitchen, a greenhouse, and a center dedicated to elderly care.

A massive development with over 1,000 units of housing is coming to Long Island City’s Hunter’s Point South neighborhood. Developed by the Gotham Organization and RiseBoro Community Partnership, Gotham Point includes two towers and a total of 1,132 residences, 75 percent of which are affordable. The project is part of a broader plan first announced in 2013 by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg to redevelop nine parcels of land in Hunter’s Point South and bring 5,000 new apartments to the neighborhood. Applications are currently being accepted for 55 affordable apartments at a new sustainable development in Brooklyn’s Ocean Hill neighborhood. The Harry T. Nance Apartments, located at 1860 Eastern Parkway, stands 10 stories and includes a new home for the True Holy Church. New Yorkers earning 30, 40, 50, and 60 percent of the area median income can apply for the units, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms priced between $457/month and $1,485/month.

A groundbreaking celebration this week officially kicked off construction at 50 Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York. The Dattner Architects-designed project—referred to as 50 Penn—is led by Philadelphia-based developer Pennrose with RiseBoro Community Partnership, who will manage the property. It will bring 218 units of affordable and moderate-income housing to the neighborhood, alongside retail options on the ground floor that will include a healthy grocery store. The development is slated for completion in July 2021.
