Longtime UES home of Barbara Walters back on the market for $17M after deal falls through

The Upper East Side home of late journalist Barbara Walters is back on the market after the buyer backed out of a deal signed last year, the New York Post reported. The apartment at 944 Fifth Avenue was first listed in April 2023 for $19,750,000 before dropping in price to $17,750,000 and entering contract in November.

Barbara Walters’ $17.75M Upper East Side apartment finds buyer

Barbara Walters' longtime Upper East Side apartment, last listed for $17.75 million, has found a buyer, less than a year after the beloved journalist's passing. Located at 944 Fifth Avenue, the home received a $2 million price cut from its initial asking price of $19.75 million in April. Walters lived in the five-bedroom, five-bathroom pre-war apartment for 30 years until her death last December at the age of 93.

The 11-room, full-floor co-op that celebrated TV journalist Barbara Walters called home for 30 years until her death last year is now on the market for $19,750,000. The sprawling residence at 944 Fifth Avenue is a classic Upper East Side pre-war gem, with Central Park views, five bedrooms, and a layout befitting a resident who entertained and interviewed politicians, princes, stars, and scoundrels alike as just another day on the job.
