Kingsbridge Armory redevelopment approved by City Council

The City Council on Thursday unanimously approved a plan to transform the Bronx’s long-vacant Kingsbridge Armory into a mixed-use community hub with roughly 500 affordable homes. Led by the city’s Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the El Centro Kingsbridge project will convert the historic armory into a vibrant facility featuring an event venue, recreation center, sports fields, and a public plaza, with a new affordable housing building next door. The approval marks a major milestone for the long-stalled site, following two failed redevelopment attempts that collapsed amid community opposition.

Upscale event venue to be first tenant at Chelsea’s redeveloped Terminal Warehouse

Chelsea’s landmarked Terminal Warehouse, a nearly 135-year-old building recently transformed into a commercial and events space, has officially landed its first tenant. Convene Hospitality Group signed a 50,000-square-foot lease for a three-level luxury event space, "The Mallory," named after George Mallory, the architect of the original building in 1891. Located in the building's northwest corner at 12th Avenue and West 28th Street, and accessed via the warehouse's famed tunnel, the venue will have space for up to 550 guests and include a reception lounge with a 25-foot bar, a grand event hall, special suites, and a gallery with movable walls.

Williamsburg ice skating rink reopens in Domino Park this November

After a successful debut last year, Williamsburg’s first waterfront ice skating rink will return this winter in Domino Park. Two Trees Management announced Monday that the 7,000-square-foot rink will open on November 10, offering New Yorkers the chance to skate with scenic views of the skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge through February 22, 2026. The rink’s popular DJ nights, holiday-themed skate events, live performances, and other seasonal activities will return, and this year it will also offer a semi-private party space for birthdays.

Fishs Eddy to open first Brooklyn outpost in Dumbo this fall

Fishs Eddy, the cult-favorite Union Square home goods and dinnerware store known for its quirky products, will open its first Brooklyn location this fall in Dumbo. Developer Two Trees Management announced Thursday that the retailer signed a 10-year lease for a 3,800-square-foot outpost at 81 Front Street, about the same size as its flagship at 889 Broadway. The new store will feature vintage finds, one-of-a-kind pieces, and signature Fishs Eddy items.

New Yorkers earning 40, 80, and 100 percent of the area median income can apply for the units, priced from $912/month studios to $3,522/month three bedrooms.

It's going to be BIG. Architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) this week unveiled designs for a 1,000-unit mixed-use tower at 175 Third Street in Gowanus, expected to be the largest building in the neighborhood. Situated along the canal, the concrete-clad building will take a horseshoe shape and rise 27 stories in a series of cascading volumes. The u-shape design opens towards the canal, where a park and esplanade will offer public open space and flood protection.

A former hotel near John F. Kennedy International Airport that has been converted into a housing development launched a lottery last week for 125 affordable apartments. Located at the former JFK Hilton in South Jamaica, the Baisley Pond Park Residences includes over 300 affordable and supportive housing units, a 2,400-square-foot healing garden, and on-site social services. New Yorkers earning 50 and 60 percent of the area median income can apply for the apartments, priced from $784/month for studios to $1,493/month for two bedrooms.

The city is looking to redevelop three sites in Long Island City that nearly became Amazon's second headquarters. As first reported by Crain's New York, the Adams administration will release a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) this spring to redevelop 44-36 Vernon Boulevard, a longtime Department of Education property. The city is prioritizing proposals that include commercial, industrial, and community-serving tenants for the six-story building. The 672,000-square-foot warehouse was once slated to be part of Amazon's "HQ2," a sprawling campus for the retail giant, but the company withdrew its plan in 2019 after strong opposition from residents, elected officials, and community groups.

A $10 billion plan to transform Midtown's aging Port Authority Bus Terminal into a world-class transit hub has received approval from the federal government and the city of New York. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) on Wednesday was issued a record of decision by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) after an "exhaustive" environmental review. The first phase of work, which will construct deck-overs above Dyers Avenue, is slated to begin early next year.
