Knicks to celebrate first NBA title in 53 years with ticker-tape parade

After a half-century drought, the New York Knicks have finally brought an NBA championship back to the five boroughs. To celebrate, as is tradition in New York City, a ticker-tape parade will be held for the team on Thursday, the first time in franchise history. The parade will take place at 10 a.m. on June 18 along the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan and end outside City Hall, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani will present the team with keys to the city.

Bryant Park to host Knicks watch party for Game 3

Bryant Park will host a Knicks watch party on Monday after the usual event outside of Madison Square Garden was canceled due to heightened security for President Donald Trump, who is attending the game. While the police department won't support New York Knicks playoff watch parties outside of Madison Square Garden anymore, fans still celebrated the team's first NBA Finals appearance in 27 years on Monday. After the city’s Police Department denied permits for the watch party for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, citing "very rough" crowds, the event relocated to Radio City Music Hall and Brooklyn Bowl. According to the NYPD, past watch parties have included some people jumping police barriers, throwing glass bottles into crowds, and brawling, with six people arrested last Thursday, the New York Post reported. The lack of permits did not stop fans from heading to 7th Avenue to celebrate the team's historic sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While fans took over Manhattan streets after the New York Knicks won game six against the Celtics last week, it's the players' turn now. Streets across the borough have been temporarily co-named after Knicks players ahead of the first Eastern Conference finals game on Wednesday. Mayor Eric Adams and the city's Department of Transportation, along with Madison Square Garden and the Knicks, unveiled 15 blue and orange street signs featuring the name and jersey number of current players.
