The long-time Hoboken home of acclaimed indie filmmaker and novelist John Sayles is on the market for $2,500,000. The red-brick rowhouse at 210 13th Street offers roughly 1,800 square feet across three stories, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a partially finished basement, and a cozy outdoor space. Sayles bought the home, which retains many original features, with his wife in 1981.

Sayles is best known for writing and directing films such as “The Brother from Another Planet,” “Eight Men Out,” “Passion Fish,” “The Secret of Roan Inish,” “Lone Star,” “Men with Guns,” “Sunshine State,” and “Silver City.”

He is also an author, debuting with “Pride of the Bimbos” in 1975. His latest book, “Crucible,” released in January, is a historical novel set from the 1920s to the 1940s that explores Henry Ford’s company in Detroit and his ill-fated Amazon rubber plantation, “Fordlandia,” according to the New York Post.

The home is currently owned by John F. Jenkinson and Amos Wolff, the nephew of Sayles’ wife, Maggie Renzi. The couple purchased the property in 2022 for $1.2 million, raised their children there, and are now buying a larger home in Nyack, Sharon Shahinian, the Brown Harris Stevens agent with the listing, told the Post.

Located between Garden Street and Park Avenue in uptown Hoboken, the south-facing single-family townhouse boasts abundant natural light and open spaces that flow seamlessly. The parlor floor is welcoming, featuring pumpkin pine plank flooring, high ceilings, and a spacious living room with original detailing.

An eat-in kitchen is outfitted with marble countertops and stainless steel appliances, creating an ideal space for family gatherings. Adjacent to the kitchen is a casual living and dining area with parquet flooring, complemented by a full bathroom with luxurious Mexican tile. Glass doors from the kitchen open onto a quaint outdoor garden.

The primary bedroom includes built-in closets, custom wood shelving, and an integrated desk area, providing a quiet space to work. On the top floor, two to three flexible bedrooms are thoughtfully partitioned to adapt to your needs and can be easily combined if desired.

Additional features include two-zone central air, a new roof and hot water heater, two sets of washers and dryers, and upgraded mechanical systems throughout the home.
