Cutting-edge Soho penthouse hits the market for a whopping $22.5M

This distinctive penthouse is the work of Mark Foster Gage Architects, who is not afraid to turn your architectural world upside down. Here at 88 Prince Street, in Soho, he’s taken a 12th floor penthouse unit and decked it out with eye-popping art, custom windows and lighting, a floating staircase and stunning skylight. The apartment last sold in 2008 for $5.8 million, according to public records. Post renovation, the co-op is on the market for an impressive $22.5 million (the second most expensive in the ‘hood) with a monthly maintenance of $8,094.

A elevator opens up into an apartment with four exposures, 22 windows and four skylights. Light comes in at every corner, and the landmarked windows frame the surrounding facades of historic SoHo buildings.

In the center of the sprawling great room is a customized open chef’s kitchen. The stark white Corian cabinetry hides Miele appliances and extra storage. Another distinguishing feature? A one-of-a-kind, polished stainless steel floating staircase that leads to the roof deck. This, too, is robotically cut. Ascending the staircase–complete with decorative accents–the sky reflects off the stainless steel as light comes in from another overhead skylight.

The top floor is large enough for multiple dedicated living spaces.

Two bedrooms and an office space (which could be used as a third bedroom) are located off the rear of the great room. One bedroom features a skylight and ensuite full bathroom. The second showcases huge south and western facing windows and a custom built-in storage wall.

The master suite is decked out with luxurious finishes. There’s a skylight and laser-cut grooved, wide-planked walnut floors. It also comes with an oversized his and hers master closet with mirrored pocket doors, two separate closets full of custom shelving and storage, and mirror-backed shoe racks. Finally, there’s a vanity make-up table with Hollywood styled circle bulbs. We didn’t even get to the bathroom, which has another skylight, marble radiant heated floors, custom lighting and a soaking tub.

Then there’s a roof deck perched on top of it all, with an outdoor kitchen under a historic Soho water tower.
