It’s officially the dog days of summer. This week, New Yorkers can dine out with their four-legged friends at a number of restaurants during the city’s first-ever Dog Restaurant Week. Hosted by Petminded, an organization that helps owners travel with pets, the weeklong event includes special promotions at more than a dozen dog-friendly restaurants across the city.

Petminded founder Sonali Nigam came up with the idea for NYC Dog Restaurant Week on a trip to Los Angeles, where she was able to find dog-friendly restaurants much easier than in New York.

“We decided that NYC Dog Restaurant Week would be a good way to showcase dog welcoming businesses to not just dog owners who are coming to NYC but also to the local dog-loving community,” Nigam told 6sqft in an email. “And given the success of the event, we are hoping that pet owners will continue to frequent these eateries even after the event is over.”

The organization has teamed up with rescue partners Muddy Paws Rescue and Foster Dogs. Diners can donate to the foster organizations at the restaurants or through PayPal or Venmo. And to celebrate the city’s first dog restaurant week, Petminded will announce chances to win a pet travel-themed giveaway on their Instagram.

Participating restaurants include the East Village’s Bar Verde, Bar Primi in Noho, Nolia’s Seamore’s, the Building on Bond in Boreum Hill, Dog & Bone in Gramercy, the Rookery in Bushwick, and more. NYC Dog Restaurant Week runs until Sunday, August 25. See the full list of restaurants and offers here.

If you miss this week’s furry festivities, Petminded will be hosting in the next few months a pre-holiday travel event and a Thanksgiving soup kitchen for pets. Check out their events page for more details.
