This historic brick colonial is known as the Guilford Bower House, named after the Guilford Bower Farm established here in 1854 (h/t CIRCA). The former farm occupies 54 acres at 707 Albany Post Road, in the upstate town of Gardiner. The property has been restored “true to its beginnings,” as the listing says, with stained glass details, pocket doors and tin ceilings. (The reno was so accurate, in fact, the property is now on the National Register of Historic Places.) For this grand, sprawling estate, it will cost you $1.85 million.

A long, tree-lined driveway leads to the quiet and private property. The house sits atop 54 acres that run along the Wallkill River. The expansive lawns lead down to the river as it wraps around the property.

The home makes a statement as soon as you enter the door with its bright and spacious foyer lined with crown moldings.

The first floor boasts 11-foot ceilings and crown moldings throughout. Historic details include stained glass, the original pine floors, a fireplace and windows with the original “wavy” glass panes.

While the kitchen retains some historic details, it has mostly been upgraded. The propane stove was brought in from England, beside an 18th century Irish side board and baking station. The original butler’s pantry was transformed into a space for a sink and dishwasher.

A formal dining room is also located on the first floor.

There are master suites located on both the first and second floors. In total, the home holds four bedrooms.

The attic lends itself to a creative space that’s currently being used to showcase artwork.

The recently remodeled guest cottage boasts two bedrooms, a full bathroom complete with a cedar soaking tub and mountain views out the window. The cottage is one of many surprises within the 54 acres, which also includes two ponds–one of which is stocked with Koi fish–a stream and a river. Overall, nothing to hate about this impressive property. Be sure to check out more photos in the gallery.
