Opulent Beekman Place mansion closes for $38M less than original listing price

More than six years ago, this opulent, eight-story mansion at 29 Beekman Place listed for $49.9 million. Just one year later, it dropped to $37.5 million, with another major price chop this April to $11.45 million. First spotted by Crain's, city property records show that the controversial home near the UN has finally closed for $11.5 million. Crain's explains that it was owned by the former princess of Iran, and was the center of a legal battle involving her sister since 2016. It also went into contract three times and fell through.

Eight-story Beekman Place mansion lowers price yet again to $11.45M

It's been more than six years since this stately home at 29 Beekman Place first listed for $37.5 million, and it's now back on the market for less than a third of that price. Built in 1934 as the largest of all the mansions along the exclusive enclave, the home is eight stories and has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, two terraces, and amazing East River views. It's only had three owners in its lifetime, starting with its first resident, CBS founder William S. Paley.

Former Beekman Home of CBS Founder Lowers Price to $37.5M

This palatial Beekman Place mansion, designed by Eldridge Snyder, has served as a domicile to the head of CBS and to the shah of Iran's twin sister. The majestic home stands eight levels tall, with eight to ten bedrooms covering 10,500 square feet. Unfortunately, the home has had a visit from the price chopper, falling from an initial asking of $49.9 million in February 2014 to a current asking of a much lower $37.5 million.
