The Upper East Side home of late journalist Barbara Walters is back on the market after the buyer backed out of a deal signed last year, the New York Post reported. The apartment at 944 Fifth Avenue was first listed in April 2023 for $19,750,000 before dropping in price to $17,750,000 and entering contract in November.

According to the Post, the deal fell through, leaving a “hefty deposit” behind. The pre-war co-op returned to the market this month, asking for a discounted $16,995,000.

The full-floor apartment has 11 rooms, five bedrooms, and priceless Central Park views.

Walters lived at the home for 30 years up until her death in 2022. When she moved to the apartment in the 1980s, Walters hired interior designer Mario Buatta to fill the space with art, antiques, and souvenirs from her travels.

The home was listed as Walter left it. In November, Bonhams auctioned her jewelry, furniture, clothing, and comprehensive collection of American art, including pieces by prominent artists of the Gilded Age.

Built in 1925, 944 Fifth Avenue is a 14-story pet-friendly building on Central Park with only one apartment per floor. Amenities include a door attendant, private storage, and a gym.
