With most of us ready to kick 2016 to the curb, there’s never been a better reason to get out and do something big for New Year’s Eve. This Saturday, put on something fancy/freaky/celebratory and get yourself to one of these amazing experiential parties. Take a cue from Dali at the Second Annual Surrealist Ball at the Roxy Hotel, or go Black Tie with Soho Grand’s Masquerade Ball. Expand your Sleep No More experience with their super fancy Bohemian Ball, or get a table at Mission Chinese for Luke Neocamp’s takeover. Hang all night at an art opening by Rae BK, or go the tourist way for the 112th New Year’s celebration in Times Square. Or if you’re in Brooklyn, head to The Well for a massive Tiki Disco, or to the immersive House of Yes for a party looking to the future. Whatever path you choose, happy New Year to all!

All month long, check out artist Chen Man's poignant and interactive Nao Nao pieces for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Peninsula Hotel, then head to Times Square for the melting poetry of Tim Etchells each night across the ad screens. Artist Joseph Grazi pens a love letter to Cecil the Lion and asks us to reevaluate the value of life, while the works of Richard Long take over the first floor of the iconic Donald Judd Foundation in Soho. Dan Efram shares stills of films he's never made, and a group of artists that favor paper talk techniques at Trestle Gallery. Art Nerd New York’s Top Event Picks for the Week – 5/19-5/25

Art Nerd‘s philosophy is a combination of observation, participation, education and of course a party to create the ultimate well-rounded week. Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top picks for 6sqft readers! There's a new Martin Puryear sculpture to enjoy during your lunch hour outside at Madison Square Park, debuting this week through January. Also this week, check out the Surrealist paintings of Eric Helvie at the High Line Loft, Ian Strange's takeover of suburban Ohio homes on the Bowery, or the late Kirk Magnus' epic sculpture at James Cohan. Head to the Bronx on Saturday for the graffiti-meets-Scandinavian sensibility of Rubin415, or join the art crowd in Soho for a photoshoot that will become a massive mural by stencil artist Logan Hicks. Art Nerd New York’s Top Event Picks for the Week,10/5-10/21

This weekend is the end-all be-all for architecture mavens in New York—the annual Open House New York weekend! SO many amazing architectural icons are open and waiting for you to explore them, before they close their doors to the general public for another year. The weekend also brings a not-to-miss exhibition, "Calm Before the Storm," with new works by Logan Hicks and Beau Stanton. Yes, this is curated by yours truly and Natalie Kates, and it's guaranteed to be an epic marine-themed show, complete with a giant shipwreck in the gallery. The intelligent concept store Chamber NYC has its second collection in play with earth-inspired art and design objects curated by Andrew Zuckerman. The Lowline, that underground park we hope comes to fruition, is hosting an open house to check out the techie gadgets they're working on to make it a reality. Detroit print mavens 1xRun are taking over Joseph Gross Gallery, and Greenpoint Gallery is letting the people decide. FIT is hosting a two-day symposium on everything Susanne Bartsch, and lastly, Ad Hoc Gallery will be resurrected for the 6th annual Welling Court Mural Fest.
