As 6sqft previously reported, Tribeca Film Festival co-founders (with Robert DeNiro) Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff have been trying to sell their sprawling pad in the storied Dakota since last March, when they listed the 7,500-square-foot combo of no less than four individual units for the suitably vast sum of $39 million. A year and some months later with no takers, the couple, who announced their divorce in 2014–have edited a cool $19 million out of the picture and are now asking $25 million (h/t Curbed).
Upper West Side
Some big-time New Yorkers are selling their big-time pad at The Dakota, the most iconic cooperative in the Upper West Side. Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the couple that founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro, have just listed their sprawling five-bedroom apartment for no small sum—$39 million. The couple purchased the apartment more than 20 years ago, but announced their divorce in early 2014. Now, this very impressive home—actually an assemblage of four apartments covering over 7,500 square feet, with 165 feet of frontage along Central Park—is up for grabs.
If you’re the kind of person that could spend hours curled up on the couch with a book, this two-bedroom apartment is pretty much the perfect place to do that. It’s located at the cooperative 242 West 104th Street, in the Riverside Drive area of the Upper West Side. The interior design resembles the best kind of library—warm colors, exposed brick, even a rolling ladder that runs the length of the main hallway. The only thing a buyer would need to add? Lots more bookshelves!
Original mahogany and oak paneling, inlaid parquet floors, carved mantels and a grand staircase. That’s the lowdown at 315 West 78th Street, an impressive townhouse in the Riverside Drive/West End Avenue area of the Upper West Side. It’s a huge house, with 4,000 square feet, 11 rooms, five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. It also has an impressive number of historic details intact.
The home has been offered as a rental for a few years now, priced between $15,499 and $16,000 a month. It’s back on the market asking $16,000 and is being offered furnished or not. It’s also available short term, for a minimum of a six-month stay. This is a spot we definitely wouldn’t mind hanging for six months.
But it almost did. In 2008, when Turkish millionaire and Mavi Jeans mogul Ragip Ersin Akarlilar and his wife bought this historic 1870 four-story Italianate home at 51 West 83rd Street among the brownstones of the Upper West Side for $4.3 million, it was in need of renovation. Plans were drawn for a gut overhaul, including a sleek wall of glass at the back that could open up to encompass an outdoor swimming pool (shown here in the Post). Neighbors balked at the proposed additions, and a kerfuffle ensued. Akarlilar eventually obtained permission from the Landmarks Preservation Commission, permits were granted, and work began. According to the Observer, the homeowners “unintentionally fell in love with another house,” and sold the home, mid-reno, for $6.8 million to a buyer/flipper who intended to finish the ambitious job–sans pool.
Forward to now. The home recently hit the market for $14.8M. The renovation is not only quite attractive, but an additional lower level has made the home a whopping 6,300 square feet with a nifty bi-level backyard.
Here’s a six-story single-family home at 337 West 87th Street with space galore: 8,000 square feet, to be exact, plus another 1,700 square feet outdoors. The whole place has been renovated with luxurious modern finishes, including a marble powder room, skylights, custom cabinetry, walk-in closets and more. In case you’re wondering how you’d be able to climb six stories of your home everyday without breaking a sweat, it is outfitted with an elevator that goes from the cellar up to the penthouse level. Of course, all this doesn’t come cheap, especially considering that the property is located on a tree-lined block off of Riverside Drive. The asking price is $12.995 million.
Sometimes it takes a while to settle into a new place, but the minute we saw this spectacular residence on the market for $3.2 million in the Dorilton at 171 West 71st Street, it felt like home. While it’s true the landmarked building’s elaborate Edwardian façade could seem a little imposing, the warmth emanating from this immaculate, five-room Upper West Side home more than makes up for any airs the grand and gated entrance might convey.
