October’s cozy days are officially upon us, and we’ve got a slew of ways to celebrate. All month long, check out artist Chen Man’s poignant and interactive Nao Nao pieces for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Peninsula Hotel, then head to Times Square for the melting poetry of Tim Etchells each night across the ad screens. Artist Joseph Grazi pens a love letter to Cecil the Lion and asks us to reevaluate the value of life, while the works of Richard Long take over the first floor of the iconic Donald Judd Foundation in Soho. Dan Efram shares stills of films he’s never made, and a group of artists that favor paper talk techniques at Trestle Gallery. Lastly, spend a crisp day in the Hamptons for the 24th annual film festival and Patron Hosts’ Art+Music Lounge, with a show curated by Natalie Kates and a party curated by Art Nerd!

In a city where hundreds of interesting happenings occur each week, it can be hard to pick and choose your way to a fulfilling life. Art Nerd‘s philosophy is a combination of observation, participation, education and of course a party to create the ultimate well-rounded week. Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top picks for 6sqft readers, beginning tonight.

This week is a bit heavy on the arty side, kicking off with an opening on the Lower East Side with a ridiculously long name, or one involving smashing plates in Chelsea. Hunt for new talent at Parsons’ MFA Thesis exhibition, school yourself with a gallery talk with Rivane Neuenschwander, or support a great cause (and see some great art) at Swoon’s Heliotrope Foundation benefit.

To satisfy your design tooth, this weekend is all about Brooklyn, as BKYLN DESIGNS hits the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint. But you can travel back in time at the week’s end by celebrating the Van Alen Institute at a Beaux Arts gem, the Surrogate’s Courthouse.

Joseph Wolf Grazi, Bobby Andishmand, Primal Heritage, Greenpoint Loft, Succulent studios, Greenpointers Summer Market, Residency Unlimited, Todd Chandler, MONO NO AWARE, Swoon, Flood Tide, Blonde Art Books, Kitsch Encyclopedia, Independent Curators International, Decoding Alibis, MoMA, Moma Pop Rally

Another summer weekend with fabulous weather is upon us, and we can’t wait to close our laptops and get out into the city. Start your weekend off right by catching a screening of Primal Heritage, a film exploring the world of Joseph Wolf Grazi, an artist juggling the Bushwick dream with his Orthodox Jewish roots.

On Sunday, get your retail fix on at Greenpointers Summer Market, which will be chock full of artist- and locally designed goods you’ll definitely want in your home. Greenpointers also invites you to sip on Brooklyn Brewery beers and Dandelion Wine sangria while you shop, so if you’re looking to unwind with a drink in addition to some retail therapy, this is your best bet. And once you’ve hit your spending limit, mosey on over to the galleries in the 67 West building for some art… Want more? We’ve got a full list of events after the break.
