Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top picks for 6sqft readers! Let’s immerse ourselves in some art this weekend to ease some of the stress we’ve gone through during this election, shall we? First, get the inside scoop on Times Square’s latest Midnight Moment artist Emilio Perez, then head to the beautiful Park Avenue Armory to experience the Art Deco and mid-century modern world at the Salon Art + Design. Later “Once More, with Feeling” will take you into a group show that delves into emotional expression, and over at C24, Katja Loher transforms the inside and outside of the gallery into an alternative world. You spent the summer posing next to Deborah Kass’s giant OY/YO sculpture, now spend the fall hunting down David Crumley’s DUMBO reflector as it makes its way around iconic landscapes in the neighborhood. Head to Times Square for a chance to walk on the clouds, then jaunt up to the Museum of Art and Design to take in a lecture on innovative ceramicist Peter Voulkos. Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top picks for 6sqft readers! Most of us are dead tired from Armory Week, but the show must go on. This week, Times Square Arts delights twice- first with a new #MidnightMoment that invites a moment of relaxation amidst the concert jungle, then a scream fest at the AMC Theater. Herman Bas echoes queer art history at Lehmann Maupin, while Ground Floor Gallery brings ugly and cute side by side. The take of Genesis P'Orridge and Lady Jaye, who spent years getting plastic surgery to look like one another, is told in film at the Rubin Museum, and Jenny Sabin uses 3D technology to weave an epic, illuminated pavilion at the Cooper Hewitt. Experience a massive new installation by Nancy Lupo at the Swiss Institute, then end the week by honing your understanding of color with photographer Bill Armstrong at Aperture.

Could This Modern Residential Tower Replace the Historic Barney’s Building at 115 Seventh Avenue?

Bargain hunters were distraught when Loehmann's shuttered their NYC locations two years ago. It perhaps hit hardest at their Chelsea location, at the northeast corner of 16th Street and Seventh Avenue. Later that year it was announced that upscale retailer Barney's would be opening a five-level store in the space, which also happens to be the site where they were founded in 1923, and remained until 2007. Next door, at the southeast corner of Seventh Avenue and 16th Street, also once part of Barney's downtown flagship, 6sqft has uncovered a rendering showing a modern residential tower with a retail base that may replace the historic Romanesque-style building.

It's almost Memorial Day, which means your weekend is probably already chock full of picnics, barbecues and outdoor drinking activities. But in case it isn't, we've rounded up some arty- and some Memorial Day-themed activities to keep the long weekend packed full of fun. Cool off with some public art in Brooklyn Bridge Park, be the first to hop over to Governors Island this season, or see Tom Cruise on the deck of the Intrepid. You can also get outside of your borough comfort zone and head to Far Rockaway to celebrate surf and photography, hear from some women in downtown rock, or try out your best dance moves at a hip hop party sponsored by the Museum of the City of New York. Then round out the weekend with the serenity—and opulence—of Buddhist art from Kashmir. There, weekend sorted.
