Stern Architects (RAMSA) and Olson Kundig have teamed up for a new condo project in Chelsea and ahead of its official launch later this fall, we're getting a first look inside. Located across the street from Hudson River Park at 555 West 22nd Street, The Cortland is a 25-story building with 144 total units. RAMSA designed the exterior of the condo and Olson Kundig handled the interiors, combining their distinguished architecture styles in one impressive waterfront development.

NYC replaces Trump Organization as operator of Central Park’s Wollman Rink

A joint venture made up of businesses and some nonprofit groups will run Central Park's Wollman Rink, officially replacing the Trump Organization as the operator, the city's Parks Department announced on Tuesday. Earlier this year, the agency issued requests for proposals to operate and manage Wollman Rink and the Central Park Carousel, both of which were formerly run by President Donald Trump's company. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city would terminate any agreements with the organization following the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Hudson Yards reveals two huge murals near the Vessel

As part of its HYxOffTheWall initiative to bring "vibrant and interactive displays and murals" to Hudson Yards, the mega-development has revealed two new public art installations that will remain on view for the rest of the year. Street artist ELLE worked on a 2,900-square-foot semicircular stretch of wall, and mural artist KEY DETAIL worked on a four-sided standing rectangle that rises behind it. According to a press release, the two works "celebrate inclusion and togetherness, inspired by a belief that New York’s happiest moments are the ones we spend together—something we have been consistently reminded of during our time apart."

Facebook may be extending its footprint at Hudson Yards

But in the wake of the COVID pandemic, the retailer filed for bankruptcy in early May, leaving Hudson Yards developer Related Companies to begin marketing the store's nearly 200,000 square feet as office space instead. And today, WWD reports that Facebook, which already has leased 1.5 million square feet in the mega-development, may be interested in the additional space.

In agreement with Manhattan U.S. Attorney, Hudson Yards’ Vessel will majorly increase accessibility

In an agreement with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney, Hudson Yards developer Related Companies has agreed to significantly increase the accessibility of its Vessel public art piece. The 150-foot-tall climbable sculpture is comprised of 154 interconnecting flights of stairs, nearly 2,500 individual steps, and 80 platform landings. But as it's currently engineered, only three of these platforms, all on the same side of the structure, are accessible via the elevator. According to an announcement from the Department of Justice, Related will now install a "platform lift mechanism that will allow individuals with disabilities to traverse the stairways and platforms at the top levels of the Vessel so as to enjoy 360-degree views."

Thomas Heatherwick’s pair of bubbled condos on the High Line gets rebranded as ‘Lantern House’

The pair of unique condo buildings with a bubbled facade rising on the High Line will officially be called Lantern House. Located at 515 West 18th Street, the two condo towers were designed by Thomas Heatherwick's Heatherwick Studio, the firm behind the climbable "Vessel" at Hudson Yards and the under-construction floating park at Pier 55. Along with the rebranding, Related Companies announced on Tuesday that sales for the development's 181 residences will launch next year, starting at $1.7 million for one-bedroom units.

Second phase of Related’s Hudson Yards development stalled by LIRR

As Related Companies CEO Stephen Ross continues to face backlash for throwing a fundraiser on Friday for President Donald Trump, his company is dealing with some drama of its own. Plans submitted a year ago to the Long Island Rail Road for the second phase of the Hudson Yards development have still not been approved by the agency, the New York Post reported.

Facebook in talks to lease up to 1.8 million square feet at Hudson Yards

In June, reports surfaced that Facebook was considering a lease for one million square feet of office space at 50 Hudson Yards, but the latest news from sources close to the deal indicate that the social media company will scoop up an even bigger footprint. As Crain's most recently reported, Facebook is negotiating a lease for 1.5 million square feet across several Hudson Yards properties, with some sources saying that number could expand up to 1.8 million square feet.

Equinox has officially opened the doors to its 100th fitness club at 35 Hudson Yards, just ahead of the very first Equinox Hotel opening next month. The 60,000-square-foot location— Equinox’s largest new built yet—stretches over two floors and includes a 15,000-square-foot pool and sundeck set against the backdrop of Hudson Yards’ signature landmark, the Vessel.

Equinox will open a co-working space at Hudson Yards

In addition to supplying members with Kiehl's products and trendy classes, Equinox fitness clubs will now offer co-working spaces. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Equinox is partnering with co-working company Industrious to open furnished office spaces near their gym locations. Equinox is owned by Related, the mega-developer behind Hudson Yards, and therefore the first outpost will open later this year at 35 Hudson Yards. The luxury fitness chain is also opening at the 72-story tower its first hotel (where rooms start at a whopping $700/night) and its largest fitness center in the world, complete with a rooftop pool overlooking the Vessel.

After seven years of construction, Hudson Yards is now OPEN

It's been nearly two decades since city officials began plans and rezonings for Manhattan's West Side Yards and seven years since construction began on the selected $20 billion project, Hudson Yards. And as of today, the largest private development in the nation is officially open to the public. First of Heatherwick’s bubbled condo buildings tops out on the High Line

The smaller tower in Related Companies’ High Line-straddling project has topped out. The two matching condo towers at 555 West 18th Street, one on either side of the elevated park, were designed by Heatherwick Studio as their first residential project in Manhattan. The duo has become know as the "bubble towers" for their bulging bay windows, that not only give the appearance of a building covered in bubble wrap but provide for interesting views of the park and Hudson River.

Reaching over 1,000 feet, 35 Hudson Yards tops out as the mega-project’s tallest residential building

The first residential supertall to rise at the Hudson Yards mega-project officially topped out this week at 1,009 feet. Developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, 35 Hudson Yards rises 72 floors and is now considered the ninth tallest structure in New York City, YIMBY reported. Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed the 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use tower, which will accommodate 137 private residences, an Equinox-branded hotel and fitness club, office space and ground-floor retail.

See dizzying new renderings of 30 Hudson Yards’ outdoor observation deck, the highest in NYC

Renderings via Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group Construction commenced this week on the super-high outdoor observation deck at 30 Hudson Yards, developers Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group announced Tuesday. Soon to be the highest in the Western Hemisphere, the outdoor deck will sit 1,100 feet in the sky and be found on the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards. The deck, made up of 15 primary sections of steel and glass, will extend 65 feet away from the building. And a pair of new renderings released on the developer's Instagram show just how dizzying this aerial adventure will be.

Hudson Yards’ latest amenity will be old-fashioned doctor house calls

Developers have long tried to lure buyers and renters with lists of spectacular amenities and high-end art collections, but Hudson Yards developers’ Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group have something no other New York City developer is offering-- a medical clinic for people who live and work in their buildings. According to the New York Times, Related asked buyers what they considered an “ideal” place to live. Jeff T. Blau, Related’s chief executive and a board member at Mount Sinai, said, “They were saying they like having their doctors around the corner, and when we thought about it we realized there were no doctors around the corner because this neighborhood didn’t exist before.”

Robert A.M. Stern will design fourth Hudson River-front residential tower for Related

The classic limestone looks of Robert A.M. Stern lend themselves well to the waterfront, and mega-developer Related is certainly looking to capitalize on the starchitect's expertise. They've previously tapped Stern for their Tribeca Park rental in Battery Park City, Superior Ink condo in the West Village, and the under-construction Tribeca condo 70 Vestry. Now, Related has once again brought RAMSA on board to design a condo tower at 555 West 22nd Street, which is being developed as the Hudson Residences along with the just-revealed High Line-straddling towers by Thomas Heatherwick. Proposed renderings uncovered by CityRealty on an EB-5 funding page detail a 22-story, subdued brick building that features Stern's signature boxy aesthetic.

Thomas Heatherwick designs two bubbled condo towers for Related’s High Line-straddling site

Thomas Heatherwick plans to bring more eccentricity to Manhattan's west side with two condo towers covered in a bubbled facade and bisected by the High Line, as CityRealty reported on Wednesday. The straddling pair at 515 West 18th Street, currently known as the Hudson Residences in conjunction with another Robert A.M. Stern-designed tower planned for West 22nd Street, will contain 181 condos split between a 10-floor east tower and a 22-floor west tower. The development spans 425,000 square feet and will include 17,000 square feet of retail and gallery space, as well as 175 parking spots.

First look inside the amenity spaces at Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th Street

Closings commenced at the late Zaha Hadid's futurist 520 West 28th Street at the end of June, coming in above their original asking prices, and over the summer the curvaceous condo welcomed its first residences. According to a press release from developer Related, now that move-ins are underway, the architects have revealed photos of the fully amenitized interiors, which includes one of the world's first private IMAX theaters, a 75-foot sky-lit lap pool, a High Line-adjacent terrace and landscaped courtyard, and a fitness center complete with a 24-hour juice bar and plunge pool.

REVEALED: Inside the model residences of Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th Street

Just a few days after the first anniversary of Zaha Hadid's death, developer Related Companies has revealed the first look inside the apartments at 520 West 28th Street--the Pritzker Prize-winning architect's first (and possibly only) NYC project. The first is a 4,500-square-foot, $15 million four-bedroom designed by Jennifer Post, combining her signature elegant, minimal aesthetic with Hadid's futuristic, architectural vision. The other is a 1,700-square-foot, $4.9 million unit from West Chin who employs his signature modern style in a way that complements the building's signature curves and organic indoor and outdoor architecture. Both spaces will serve as the building's sales gallery before the anticipated June 2017 move-in.

First Hudson Yards Tower Opens, Welcomes Coach to Its New HQ

10 Hudson Yards, the first building in what is one of the country's largest construction sites, is officially open for business on Manhattan's far west side. Fashion brand Coach is in the process of moving its headquarters to the 900-foot, 52-story mixed-use structure–known as Coach Tower–from its former location a few blocks away, the Wall Street Journal reports. For the luxury brand, the move represents an important milestone in a quest to re-establish its upscale image. The deal to move into a 738,000-square-foot office in the Kohn Pederson Fox-designed building made headlines when it was announced in 2013. Coach invested $750 million to buy the retail condo space for its new headquarters. Coach's design team worked with STUDIOS Architecture on their new workspace and dedicated entry lobby, which will feature a replica of the company’s famed product library: On display will be 2,000 handbags from past times to present, viewable by High Line visitors.
