In 2018, 6sqft reported that the 50,000-square-foot compound on four acres at 14 Lake Shore Road in Greenwood Lake, N.Y., owned by former Yankee shortstop and Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, was on the market for $14.75 million. The baseball star reportedly purchased the property, known as Tiedemann Castle after its previous owners, for $425,000 in around 2003. The last 15 years have been spent renovating the “castle.” The Wall Street Journal reports that the property, which has been on and off the market for several years, will be heading to the auction block on December 15, with a minimum bid of $6.5 million. The property has a familiar connection for Jeter: His grandfather, Sonny Connors, was raised there as the adopted son of John and Julia Tiedemann, who had purchased the 1903 estate in 1952.

Although he’s moved on to a new team and city, former Yankee Derek Jeter will always be a Bronx Bomber in the eyes of fans. As a way to honor the star shortstop and current Miami Marlins coach, two Bronx Council Members are introducing legislation to rename East 161st Street, the block in front of the stadium, “Jeter Street,” as amNY first reported.

While owning a waterfront castle might seem presumptuous even for the former Yankee captain and current Miami Marlins owner, this 50,000-square-foot upstate compound on four acres at 14 Lake Shore Road in Greenwood Lake, NY, was more than just a random luxury buy. Tiedemann Castle, as it is known, has a family history for Jeter: According to the New York Post, his grandfather Sonny Connors, adopted son of John and Julia Tiedemann, who purchased it in 1952, was raised on the property. Jeter bought the estate 15 years ago for $425,000, so even after being “lovingly restored, with unparalleled attention to detail,” the current $14.75 million price tag is a hefty hike.

According to the listing for this otherwise nondescript brick townhouse on a pretty West Village street, both Derek Jeter and fellow former Yankee Alex Rodriguez were one-time residents. Jeter was renting the 2,800 square-foot home until last spring, and Curbed tells us that while Courtney Love took a look but didn’t bite, the four-story home at 56 Bank Street has been on the market for quite some time, most recently asking $7.495 million.
