The fight continues over a proposed new development on a large stretch of land in the Crown Heights North Historic District II with an online petition opposing the project collecting over 4,000 signatures. A neighborhood group, Friends of 920 Park, hopes to stop the construction of a seven-story, 182-unit apartment building on land at 959 Sterling Place (920 Park Place), originally the site of the Methodist Home for the Aged and currently the home of the Hebron French Speaking Seventh Day Adventist School. The renewed fight against the project comes ahead of a Brooklyn Community Board 8 and Landmarks Preservation Commission public hearing on the plan later this summer.

Maple East New York Housing, located where the Crown Heights and East Flatbush neighborhoods of Brooklyn meet, is accepting applications for 16 affordable apartments. The building, found at 918 East New York Avenue, contains a blend of affordable and supportive housing, offering a mix of studios, one and two bedroom units. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 60 percent of the area median income can apply for the $1,017/month one-bedrooms and $1,224/month two-bedrooms.

With its beautiful brownstones and tree-lined streets, Crown Heights was once among the city’s premier neighborhoods prior to WWII. And though much has changed in subsequent years, Heritage Equity Partners is betting on its posh roots, acquiring a controlling interest in a new development project at 564 St. John’s Place.
The deal values the property at close to $30 million and plans call for the existing parking garage to be replaced by a 130,000-square-foot residential building, most likely a rental.
Heritage has been an active buyer in Brooklyn’s hot real estate market, most recently converting a church at 163 N. Sixth St. in Williamsburg into rental apartments and a new office building at 19 Kent Ave. in the same neighborhood is in the works.
Madison Realty Capital loaned Heritage $23.5 million to make the acquisition but the total price paid to former owner Rabsky Group was not disclosed. However, Madison’s co-founder, Joshua Zegen, said his firm is in active discussions with Heritage to provide construction funding for the project.
