Art Nerd New York’s top event picks for the week – 3/30-4/5

In a city where hundreds of interesting events occur each week, it can be hard to pick and choose your way to a fulfilling life. Ahead Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer shares her top picks for 6sqft readers! Spring is upon us and so is a whole new week of great art events. This weekend, see some of the best of the photography world at AIPAD or head to Brooklyn to check out Welancora Gallery’s new partnership with Nu Hotel. The Brooklyn Museum is also deconstructing the artist’s persona and hosting a new Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition. #MidnightMoment also kicks off a new film in Times Square—this April, Naoko Tosa’s "Sound of Ikebana" will take over the screens every night. Finally, come pick up my new book, "The Art of Spray Paint," and check out its corresponding exhibition at Wallworks Gallery in the Bronx.

Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top picks for 6sqft readers! Battle through the end of summer heat by flexing your art muscles. The London Police lads present a new body of work at the art-friendly Quin Hotel, while curator Alfredo Martinez explores philosophies of Picasso at Amy Li Projects. Artist in residence Tracy O'Neill shares her progress at Mathew Gallery, and the Morbid Anatomy Museum explores Twin Peaks for a unique evening. All aboard the legendary drag festival Wigstock, which takes to the high seas this Friday. Mr. Brainwash comes to town for a massive Chelsea show, and Midnight Radio Show treats Bushwick to an evening of fairytales and puppets. The power of female sex is illuminated, literally, at Catinca Tabacaru Gallery with Sophia Wallace's neon show. Brian Leo gives his tiny paintings a big voice at Amy Li Projects, while Martí Cormand sticks to the medium size of 5x7 for a postcard-themed show. Hop on a ferry and celebrate the tenth FIGMENT art festival at Governors Island all weekend long for free. Art Nerd's philosophy is a combination of observation, participation, education and of course a party to create the ultimate well-rounded week. Jump ahead for Art Nerd founder Lori Zimmer’s top end of week picks for 6sqft readers! One of the busiest art shows I've ever seen returns to New York this week- Spoke Art's annual Wes Anderson-themed exhibition "Bad Dads," which attracts collectors, fans and those who love to dress like his characters (always a lot of fun). Artist Brian Leo's colorful myriad of cartoony drawings open at Amy Li, a massive group show curated by Melissa Mccain-Welles kicks off at Azart Gallery, and cutesy arty toy store My Plastic Heart hosts a two-person East vs. West Coast Show. The gorgeous grounds of Wave Hill in the Bronx invite guests to chat with artists in their current show after perusing the gardens, and Michael Alan brings his "living installation" for visitors to become a part of for its 13th anniversary.
