Live in SHoP’s Domino Sugar Refinery tower for $596/month, lottery open for 104 units
Earlier this fall, the first building at Two Trees’ three million-square-foot Domino Sugar Refinery mega-development topped out. The 16-story, $200 million tower at 325 Kent Avenue was designed by SHoP Architects, the same firm responsible for the entire Williamsburg project’s master plan, and features a two-winged scheme with a central courtyard. It’ll hold a whopping 522 rental units, 104 of which will be reserved for individuals earning 40 percent of the area media income. As of today, these affordable apartments are up for grabs through the city’s housing lottery, where availability ranges from $596/month studios to $979/month two-bedrooms.
When completed, the entire Domino complex, which is expected to take 10 years to complete, will yield 2,800 apartments, 600,000 square feet of commercial space, and a new school. Landscape architects James Corner Field Operations are working on a quarter-mile long public waterfront park, which will incorporate some of the sugar processing plant’s artifacts.
As 6sqft previously described, “SHoP’s tower rises from a large five-story base appropriately clad in red brick, complementing the saved 1884 Domino Factory building across Kent Ave. The podium will hold several retail spaces, 750 parking spaces and some of the building’s amenities… Along the Kent Avenue side, the three highest levels bridge the two wings together. The uppermost sixteenth level will be an amenity floor for residents.”
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units at 325 Kent Avenue starting today until January 30, 2017. Residents of Brooklyn Community Board 1 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). I don’t see that one comes up on the connect or philip now ?
I have applied to these housing apts and don’t get a response from any of them. My husband applied to one and the response was we are not in need. We are living in an ice box apartment because we thought the land lord would give a break when she had base heaters put in. Well we didn’t think $50 was a break. But we can’t afford to use them anyway. people upstairs says it cost her over $600 on her electric bill. We pay over $1,100 and she has the nerve to want to raise our rent. It is only us three…husband and me,and 10lb yorkie. I moved to this place to care for my dad. He has passed away but we can’t afford to move. We was hoping to move into one of these places. Well WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET IN ALREADY!!! I CAN’T HAVE KIDS AND THAT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM. COULD THAT IT?!!!
