John Lennon and Yoke Ono, The Dakota, 1 West 72nd Street , NYC celebrity couples

Hotel Chelsea had the Warhol “superstars”, 740 Park Avenue has been considered the most sought after address in the world for 70 years, the San Remo boasts a rotating roster of celebrity residents–a lot of New York City buildings have their claim to fame. But none have as storied a past or talked-about current status as the famed Dakota at 1 West 72nd Street.

Best known as the site where John Lennon was killed when returning home with wife Yoko Ono, as well as its role in Roman Polanski’s acclaimed horror film “Rosemary’s Baby,” the Dakota’s mythical stature goes much deeper than its spectacular, fortress-like façade and proximity to Central Park. Long a desirable address for artsy celebrities, the building still attracts a slew of A-listers, but the strict co-op board is known to reject even the biggest names.

Essex House, Liam Gallagher’s apartment interior, Oasis singer apartment for sale

If his home is any indication, we’re guessing Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher loves animal prints as much as he loves Great Britain. According to the NY Post, the singer and his brother Noel have just put their Essex House condo up for sale for $4 million with Douglas Elliman agents Oren and Tal Alexander.

world cup 2014 players vs nyc real estate

It’s no secret that pro athletes make big bucks, but the world’s best soccer players are raking in Benjamins that would even make an NBA star blush. With top players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo pulling in up to $75 million, we can’t help but wonder what they’re doing with all that money. While yachts and Italian villas are fine buys, our suggestion to these star athletes is to pour it in some swanky New York property. (The Marquand or the Puck Penthouses, perhaps?)

If these soccer superstars ever decide to buy in New York, we’ve got each of their best bets ahead.

11 East 68th St, The Marquand, Kimora Lee Simmons apartment interior, Tim Leissner

Well, it only makes sense for the creator of Baby Phat to live in a phat crib. Investment banker Tim Leissner, otherwise known as Mr. Kimora Lee Simmons, just dropped $19 million on an 8th floor apartment at The Marquand, according to the NY Post. The 5BR/5.5BA unit has its own private elevator landing and wood burning fireplaces, and while we’re not sure what other features the actual apartment boasts, other apartments in the building have bay windows, a chef’s kitchen, and a media niche with a concealed A/V closet.

After re-listing her DUMBO digs for the second time in early June, Anne Hathaway has found a buyer for her Clocktower loft, last priced at $4.25 million. Hathaway snagged the 2BR/3.5BA unit at 1 Main Street with then-fiancé Adam Shulman in February 2013 for $4.1 million, but reportedly never moved in, instead using the 2,592-square-foot apartment as an extremely oversized closet. The unit first hit the market in September 2013, but was removed shortly thereafter in December.

The buyer hasn’t yet been identified, but he or she will certainly not be disappointed with the giant master suite, library and media room, corner layout, and spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and Manhattan skyline.

Law & Order Star Sells Noho Loft for $3.25 Million

By Aisha Carter, Thu, June 26, 2014

BD Wong, Law & Order: SVU, Noho apartment, NY TIimes,

According to city records, Law & Order; SVU star B.D Wong has officially sold his East 4th Street apartment for asking, after being in contract since March. The ground floor loft has a below-ground bedroom and a colorful palette that reminds us of something a stylish interior designer would create for the Joker’s bachelor pad, assuming the Joker wants to pick up chicks. But we digress…

Simon Cowell apartment, Lauren Silverman, Peter Pennoyer, 151 East 78th Street, Andrew Silverman

After months of house hunting, Simon Cowell has found a home for his new family. According to the NY Post, the TV mogul just put down $10.85 million on a nest at 151 East 78th Street for his girlfriend Lauren Silverman and their love child. The family will now call the Peter Pennoyer-designed condominium home; and while the Post isn’t entirely sure which unit the TV mogul purchased for his best friend’s ex-wife (no judgment here), they’re guessing it was the three-bedroom penthouse.

Deepak Chopra, 230 West 56th Street, Park Imperial, Deepak Chopra apartment, Deepak Chopra apartment interior, Deepak Chopra bedroom

Deepak Chopra has finally been able to free himself of the mediocre, non-wellness oriented piece of real estate he once called home. After spending $14.5 million on a Greenwich Village apartment built for a hypochondriac – the space has antimicrobial coating on high-touch surfaces and EMF shielding to protect residents from electromagnetic fields – he has finally managed to get rid of the germ-soaked two-bedroom unit his lesser-evolved self once appreciated.

Orlando Bloom apartment, Sugarloaf Condominiums, Sugarloaf Warehouse, Taylor Swift, Peter Jackson, the Hobbit, Orlando Bloom loft interior

Orlando Bloom just got a lot closer to Taylor Swift, and she didn’t even have to write a break-up song about him. The Lord of the Rings star has just purchased a $4.88 million three-bedroom loft at 155 Franklin Street, in the building formerly known as the Sugarloaf Warehouse. (We figure that sentence would make Prince proud.)

We’re guessing this building has a certain appeal to hobbit acquaintances as the penthouse, now home to Swift, was formerly home to director Peter Jackson. So, it’s the hobbit gift that keeps on giving. According to the New York Post, the star was drawn to the loft’s “cast-iron columns, exposed brick walls, open chef’s kitchen and wood-beamed ceilings”. We would be too.

Vanessa Carlton apartment interior

Out with the old, and in with the new. A recently married Vanessa Carlton has put her two-bedroom Soho loft up for rent, and she’s asking a pretty penny for it, according to the NY Daily News. The 2,500-square-foot apartment, listed by Coldwell Banker Bellmarc’s Lisa Garey, has a vintage appeal that suits the “A Thousand Miles” singer/songwriter nicely. Carlton purchased the loft, located at 182 LaFayette Street, in 2004 for $1.83 million and renovated it to maintain its historic charm while featuring modern-day amenities.
