Some people love the opportunity to watch their favorite shows being made (and maybe get a peek at their favorite stars) and argue that it boosts the local economy. Others give the whole gig a big two thumbs down.
Believe it or not, this is a story about Renée Zellweger that has nothing to do with her new appearance. The actress has listed her historic East Hampton home for $4.45 million, quite a big increase from the $2.15 million she paid for it in 2003.
Located at 30 Egypt Lane, a pretty prestigious street, the circa 1900, 2,000-square-foot farmhouse sits on almost a full acre of land with beautifully landscaped “mature gardens.”
Leonard Stern, billionaire businessman and real estate developer and namesake of NYU’s Stern School of Business, has sold his “ultimate Soho penthouse” for $14,650,000 according to city records released today. In April 2014, a year after Stern originally listed the apartment, New York Magazine released a video tour of the 4,315-square-foot, four-bedroom duplex, revealing everything from a zen solarium to a restaurant-caliber kitchen.
Stern bought the penthouse of 459 West Broadway in 2010 for $14,250,000, but the small profit likely won’t affect him too much since his net worth is estimated at $3.8 billion.
Retired NBA star Jason Kidd is getting ready to start his new gig as the head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks and he’s just listed his Hamptons home in Water Mill, N. Y. for $7.995 million. Located at 100 Flying Point Road, the four building luxury compound is just one mile from the beaches of South Hampton and Watermill. While he’s keeping his Brooklyn apartment known for its off the hook amenities (and currently available for rent), the Hamptons home is up for permanent grabs.
Things must be looking up for Knicks hoopster Carmelo Anthony and his wife LaLa, because they were reportedly seen checking out a $15 million duplex penthouse at the Chelsea Enclave, 177 Ninth Avenue. The sometimes-troubled couple was last seen touring a $29,000 a month rental at 1212 Fifth Avenue, but it seems now they’d prefer to buy.
Located on the transparent top two floors of the Chelsea Enclave, their latest real estate contender has four bedrooms, 3,452 square feet of indoor space, and 2,640 square feet of outdoor space spread across two terraces.
Brooklyn Nets’ Joe Johnson is hunting for a home and he’s got his eye on a beauty at the Clocktower Building in DUMBO. According to the NYP, the 33-year-old shooting guard was spotted scoping out a two-bedroom renting for $9,500 a month at the iconic waterfront building. The corner loft home features concrete beamed 11-foot high ceilings, hardwood flooring and big, bright windows facing the Manhattan Bridge.
Though she was recently spotted eying a $14 million Tribeca loft, it’s rumored that J.Lo has inked a deal on a $22 million duplex penthouse in NoMad‘s Whitman Building at 21 East 26th Street. She may have decided to up her budget thanks to a two-year, $26.3 million residency deal in Las Vegas. Or perhaps it was the Whitman’s A-list roster of residents that swayed her; her neighbors will include Chelsea Clinton and NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon.

In addition to holding the record for highest purchase of a sports team in New York (he bought the Jets in 2000 for a whopping $635 million), Johnson & Johnson heir Woody Johnson now also holds the title for most expensive co-op ever sold in the city. His 11th/12th floor duplex at 834 Fifth Avenue has been snatched up by billionaire Leonard Blavatnik for $80 million, well over the $75 million asking price. This far surpasses the previous co-op sale record, set when Israel “Izzy” Englander bought a duplex at 740 Park Avenue for $71.3 million.
This is merely pocket change for Blavatnik, though, as he’s the 32nd richest man in the world and worth an estimated $21.8 billion. It’s not known if he’ll take up residence in his latest acquisition or just add it to his trophy case of high-end real estate. He also paid $31.25 million for 2 East 63rd Street, the city’s widest mansion; $27 million for a unit at 998 Fifth Avenue; and $51 million for Edgar Bronfman’s townhouse at 15 East 64th Street.
Johnson didn’t live in the home; he used it solely for fundraisers and parties. It has five bedrooms, 5½ bathrooms, and three maids’ rooms, as well as a large staircase and open layout perfect for entertaining.

Sultan III bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and current ruler of the Sharjah emirate, has just purchased an apartment at 15 Central Park West with his daughter Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the 34th Most Powerful Arab Women as noted by Forbes. According to city records, the family scooped up a pristine three-bedroom unit at the famed residence designed by Robert A.M. Stern for $14.25 million.
The 2,915-square-foot home offers up a generously sized gallery a corner living room with three large windows framing Central Park, and a sizable south facing dining room with beautiful custom built-ins. A windowed, eat-in kitchen and grand marble bathtub are just a few of the other gems inside.
The home was first listed earlier this year for $16.95 million before being taken off the market a month later. The unit was again re-listed in April for $15.25 million and was reduced to $14.75 million three months later. The family scooped the home up at a $500,000 discount. Bodour Al Qasimi and the Sultan will join a plethora of socialites and celebs in the building including Robert Deniro who just moved into a $125,000/month rental.
