Mixing cocktails might look easy, but measuring jiggers of liquor and muddling herbs are no simple tasks. Even if you’re not quite up to the challenge of becoming a part-time booze aficionado, a new robotic home bartending system could still make you everyone’s favorite drink slinger.

Called Somabar, this “Wi-Fi connected craft cocktail appliance” was created especially for the home kitchen. Working from seven customizable airtight pods, Somabar can whip up a cocktail in under five seconds. The handy app then saves your favorite drinks and suggests other libations based on your tastes.

The Soma Pods can be filled with any ingredient you wish, and they’re easy to store in the fridge and dishwasher safe. In addition to the six large pods that hold ingredients like gin, tequila, lime juice, and club soda, there’s a seventh smaller pod that’s perfect for bitters or simple syrup. Somabar extracts liquid from the pods using positive displacement pumps to ensure accuracy and employs static mixing technology to shake up the cocktail. To keep each drink tasting fresh, there’s an internal water flushing system which activates every time you switch to a new drink.

Unlike other drink mix systems, Somabar is completely controlled through the mobile app, available for Android and iOS. It allows you to select how strong you’d like your drink to be, and it provides drink suggestions using the current ingredients and recommendations based on your tastes. It also saves your cocktail recipes and tracks your inventory, letting you know if you’re running low on a product.

Somabar has already raised $231,565 on Kickstarter, far exceeding its $50,000 goal and even its $200,000 stretch goal. Don’t you think this handy appliance would look just great on your countertop next to the Keurig and Soda Stream?
