There are fewer things more annoying than waiting for a friend or family member as they frantically search for their keys. Help them in their hunt (and preserve your sanity) by gifting them a Tile this holiday. This simple but brilliant device takes the mystery out of finding one’s most important belongings and takes advantage of something we all have: a smartphone.
Tile isn’t quite a GPS but instead casts a Bluetooth signal that tells you if your item is in a 100-foot range. On a phone you’ll see a green circle around your item if it’s close, and if it’s beyond the Bluetooth’s reach, that circle is gray. To let you know that your item is near, the Tile gives off a melody until what you’ve been looking for is back in hand.
The app also automatically records the last place your phone saw your Tile, so even without real-time GPS, you can always retrace your steps.
The extra forgetful folks on your gift list will be exceptionally grateful when they find out that they can Tile up to eight items. And to top that, any phone running the Tile app can pick up the location of any Tile, regardless of the owner.
Unfortunately, Tile won’t help much with those who always lose their phones. You–being the dear friend you are–will just have to suck it up and give in to their “Can you call me?” plea.
